Meet the Team: 

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Serrala, you’ll join a highly collaborative team focused on provisioning and maintaining infrastructure and services with stability, sustainability, and security always in mind. Working in a self-guided, cross-functional team, you’ll be responsible for everything from modernizing traditional services to deploying new technology. Collaboration with application engineers, platform engineers, and product managers will be key to maintaining and optimizing our cloud-based systems. You’ll set up test and production environments with our engineering teams using infrastructure as code, automate manual tasks, and monitor all components under the team’s governance. Your expertise and creativity will be essential in resolving highly complex issues with innovative and effective solutions.

 

Your Day to Day:

  • System Monitoring and Incident Response:  Monitor system health, detect anomalies, and respond promptly to incidents.  Drive continuous risk mitigation and reduction through direct involvement in incident management, blameless postmortems, and follow-ups.  Work on complex issues, analyzing situations or data that require in-depth evaluation. Investigate and troubleshoot issues related to services. Implement proactive measures to prevent service disruptions. 
  • Infrastructure Automation: Develop and provision infrastructure-as-code (IaC) scripts for deployment and scaling with Terraform and Ansible.  Automate routine tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. 
  • Performance optimization: Collaborate with development teams to optimize software performance. Drive measurable improvements to the reliability, performance, and efficiency of our production systems through instrumentation, analysis, and implementation of engineering improvements. Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to enhance system speed and reliability. Develop repeatable, low-toil operational practices through the development of automated systems for software delivery, and system failover. 
  • Capacity Planning: Forecast resource requirements based on traffic patterns and business growth. Scale infrastructure to accommodate increasing demand. 
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices. Implement security controls and participate in security audits. 

 

What makes you excel in this position:

  • At least 3 years' experience in an SRE role or at least 5 years in a comparable role (e.g., system administration), operating in a scaled environment.
  • Firm grasp of the SRE philosophy and mindset, with practical experience working on or directly with SRE teams that have proactively engaged in system design and improvement.
  • Familiar with the automation of routine tasks and experience with Cloud technologies (Azure preferred).
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Linux & Windows administration, scripting (Bash, Python, or any similar programming/scripting language), and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of network protocols, DNS, and related technologies. Comfortable providing a wide range of support, from simple issue resolution to end-to-end onboarding.
  • Experience with incident management in a production environment. Strong sense of accountability and commitment to problem-solving, backed by curiosity to identify root causes.
  • Strong troubleshooting & solving skills, effective communication, and a proactive attitude. Willingness to engage with development teams to influence software design and operational practices.
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Gitlab, GitHub, Vault, Docker. Proven knowledge of programming and scripting languages such as Java, Python, MySQL, etc. Use of Jira, Confluence.
  • Passionate about continuous learning and leveraging the scientific method to ensure nothing is taken for granted.
  • Proven knowledge of spoken and written English.
