About the role:

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for assuring compliance with federal, state & local tax statutes and regulations in support of Serrala in North America. Performs tax research and interprets tax statutes and regulations to determine the impact on the corporation. Develops strategies, methodologies, systems, and procedures for reducing state & local tax liabilities. Advises management on impact of tax laws on the corporation. Negotiates with tax authorities regarding disputes and/or interpretations. Helps manage all US and Canadian tax returns, including income, property, sales & use, franchise, and other miscellaneous tax reporting, maintaining all tax-related supporting records.

Core duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Reconcile all tax-related general ledger accounts monthly to ensure account balances are accurate and fully supported with detailed backup.
  • Reconcile customer sales and tax details across various systems (including SAP and Avalara) to ensure sales tax filings are accurate; investigate, correct, and document any discrepancies.
  • Ensure all required sales tax returns and corporate income tax returns are filed, and payments are made in a timely manner for both U.S. and Canadian entities.
  • Review and assign product tax codes for various types of products and services to ensure sales tax is correctly charged to customers.
  • Manage customer exemption certificates and collaborate with the billing team to resolve any sales tax issues on customer invoices.
  • Coordinate with external tax consultants to provide quarterly and annual tax data for the preparation of corporate income tax estimates and returns.
  • Prepare monthly Revenue by State reports and proactively work with the billing team to correct any issues where revenue is reported to the wrong state.
  • Prepare monthly Fixed Assets by State reports to support annual tax filings.
  • Prepare year-end Form 1099-MISC tax filings for applicable suppliers.
  • Record cash postings and prepare journal entries for all tax-related activities.
  • Represent the company in audits conducted by federal, state/provincial, and local tax authorities.
  • Interpret and apply domestic and international tax concepts and regulations.
  • Analyze financial data and assess the tax impact of business opportunities on the company.
  • Perform other tax-related duties as assigned.

 

What makes you excel in this position: 

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business, CTP or CPA preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience, focused on tax accounting and at least one tax preparation suite in the technology and software industry. Detailed knowledge of the U.S. tax legislation and accounting principles. Knowledge of non-U.S. direct and indirect tax statutes may be required. 
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel), ERPs (SAP), and tax compliance systems.
  • Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and auditors.
  • Ability to think critically and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Must be able to pay attention to details, notice small mistakes, and are able to deliver high quality, accurate work.
  • Ability to work with other team members with a positive attitude and respect others’ opinions. 

 

Salary Range 

United States: 84,000-105,000

 

The above annual base salary range represents a general guideline for the low and high end of the pay range for this position. However, the actual salary offered will be determined on various factors including but not limited to location, job-related skills, experience, relevant education, training as well as market and business considerations.
